Welcome to The Orchard School
Head Teachers blog
Healthy School Week 2017 – 12th – 16th June
We had great fun and learned all about, how to keep ourselves fit and healthy with fun exercise, finding out about healthy food, gardening and joining in with the music we love. We joined up with different classes to take part in lots of interesting activities across the week.
On Monday, Stacey and Julie from the Community Dental Service told us all about our teeth and how to keep them clean and about going to the dentist. We explored giant teeth and toothbrushes! We were given a toothbrush and toothpaste to take home.
We did some gardening with Steve, the school gardener. We learned how some of our food grows before it gets to the supermarket! Wow!
We had our sports days and our families joined in with some of our races and activities. Some parents were very competitive!
We had a wonderful musical afternoon with Rosie, our music teacher who led us all in a school sing song.
We all know that doing things we like makes us feel great. We love music. We joined in some exercise Zumbini sessions with other classes.
The results from the Parents survey 2017 are now available and can be found here. Thank you to all our parents who took part, we really apreciate your feedback. April 2017 The School have successfully achieved the Quality Mark for basic Skills for the 3 consecutive time. However this year we were also awarded the Quality Mark for Early Years as well. We are so pleased and proud of both awards .‘The school was exceptionally well prepared for the visit. All staff were very welcoming and knowledgeable of the processes involved. My grateful thanks also go to the Senior Leadership Team who outstandingly led both quality marks. It was noted that there is a ‘passion’ by all the staff to deliver a successful personalised curriculum for all the children of the school.
The wealth of evidence presented shows that the school has met the standards required to renew the Basic Skills Quality Mark and be awarded the Early Years Quality Mark.
Once again thank you to all staff, pupils, governor and the parents for making the visit so interesting, informative and welcoming.’

Thank you to all our families for returning the parent questionnaire, the results are currently been analysed and will be presented to all our families very soon.
On 9th February , the school officially opened Jeevan’s Gym. The Dhanda family came along with family and friends to present the school with an incredibly generous cheque to fund the outdoor gym equipment.
Our children love the new gym equipment, helping them to keep fit and healthy whilst having fun as well.
Happy New Year 2017!
Happy New Year and welcome to the first Head teachers blog.
It was lovely to welcome everyone back from their Christmas Break. Last term was very busy with all our Christmas activities and wonderful Christmas Plays. Our choir sang and signed at the Carols by Candlelight Service for the community and again at our carol service for the children. Many of our class groups went out on special Christmas trips, including visits to the Snowdome, the MAC to see the wonderful production of The Bear and Early Years visited Winter Wonderland at Drayton Manor Park , meeting Father Christmas in Thomas land!
In addition, we are very proud of our school achievements. The school have won a Story Massage Best Practice Award and we now have a new logo which will be featured on all our future letterheads.
Below is a photograph of one of our children enjoying his story session with his class teacher relaxing from the massage as he listens to the short story.
Stars in Our School
Unison run a campaign which celebrates the achievements and hard work of staff across all Sandwell Schools. We were so pleased that our cleaning, site and gardening team won first prize and were rewarded with Afternoon Tea with the Major at the Town Hall.
In addition, many of our staff were recognised for all their hard work and achievements and received flowers and chocolates, so a huge well done to all our team!
The community children’s nursing team won the Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust award for patient safety. The team won the award for their work in conjunction with the Paediatric Pharmacist, Akila Ahmed, to set up and run flu vaccination clinics for the children and young people in schools.
The school has received an incredible gift of an outdoor gym from ‘Jeevan’s Legacy ‘ and the Dhanda Family in memory of young man, Jeevan, who was a sportsman and loved working with children. ‘Jeevan’s Gym’ is located in the quad area where so many of our children will benefit greatly, thank you so much!
There will be an official opening next term. Watch out for further reports on this.
The Albion Foundation
The school had a wonderful surprise visit from one of West Bromwich Albions player, Belgium midfielder, Nacer Chadli. He was very impressed with the school and gave him an insight into the work of the Albion partnership and their work with children with complex needs. Nacer said how nice it was see all the children having fun and smiling.
